Man gets jail in crash that killed Phoenix doctor

PHOENIX — A Mesa man accused in a hit-and-run accident that killed a
neurologist has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of supervised

Maricopa County prosecutors say 33-year-old Nicholas Linsk also was sentenced
Friday to 500 hours of community service and must pay more than $18,000

Authorities say Dr. Marwan Maalouf was struck in October 2012 while riding his
bicycle in Fountain Hills east of Phoenix.

Saint Joseph’s Barrow Neurological Institute officials say the 38-year-old
Maalouf was a scientist, teacher and mentor for the past two years. They say the
Scottsdale resident had been preparing to do research on treatment patients with
Alzheimer’s disease.

Investigators say they found debris from Linsk’s pickup truck and bicycle tire
marks inside the bike lane that led to the charges.
