S. Dakota dean loses job after Arizona conviction revealed

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The dean of the University Center in Rapid City was
fired after being convicted of a felony in Arizona.

South Dakota Board of Regents Executive Director Jack Warner said Craig D.
Johnson was convicted Aug. 5 in Bisbee, Ariz., for making unauthorized use of
organization funds while serving as treasurer of the National Association of
Branch Campus Administrators.

Its only employee, Joyce Gossom, told the Rapid City Journal that Johnson was accused in May 2012 of taking about $30,000
and most of it has been repaid.

He was sentenced to probation.

Warner said Black Hills State University learned of the matter Aug. 7 from a
court officer.

He said the Regents immediately sent a team of auditors to the University
Center but found no irregularities.
