National Park Service offers free admission to celebrate 97th birthday

Aug 23, 2013, 9:03 PM | Updated: 9:03 pm

The Grand Canyon National Park and all national parks in the nation are celebrating their 97th year in existence.

The National Park Service was established on August 25, 1916 becoming the first country in the world to set aside its most significant places as national parks so they could be enjoyed by all.

“This is a great opportunity to explore a park if you’ve never been,” said spokeswoman Kirby-Lynn Shedlowski. “Entrance fee is typically $25 per car, so this is a great way to see the park for free.”

On Sunday, all 401 national park units will waive entrance fees.
