Rich Crandall delays resignation from Arizona senate over benefits

PHOENIX — Arizona State Sen. Rich Crandall is holding off his resignation fro the Legislature until his new job’s health coverage kicks in.

The Arizona Capitol Times reported that Crandall
started work as Wyoming education director Aug. 5 and had planned to have his resignation from
the Arizona Senate take effect Aug. 16.

However, Crandall said that’s changed because his health insurance coverage in
Arizona ends immediately upon his resignation and his new coverage doesn’t begin until Sept. 1.

He said he can’t allow a lapse in coverage because two of his children have
pre-existing medical conditions.

The Arizona Legislature is not in session.

Crandall now plans to resign his legislative job effective Aug. 31.

The process of appointing a replacement begins once Crandall resigns.
