Woman gets prison in crash that killed NAU student

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A Flagstaff woman has been sentenced to 18 years in
prison for the death of a Northern Arizona University student who was killed in
a hit-and-run accident.

Coconino County prosecutors say 23-year-old Kelsey Lou Cody was sentenced
Wednesday. She faced up to a 21-year prison term after pleading guilty to
second-degree murder.

The Arizona Daily Sun reported that Cody was driving
with an intoxication level three times the state’s legal limit when she struck
21-year-old Jordan Mahoney on Sept. 9.

Cody pleaded guilty in the case in June in exchange for dismissal of charges of
driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Flagstaff police say Mahoney was riding her bicycle and was struck from behind
by a speeding pickup truck that left the scene.
