Arizona man accused of trying to extort his parents

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — An ex-con is accused of trying to extort money from his
parents, allegedly threatening to burn down their Prescott home if they didn’t
give him $2,000.

Prescott police say 41-year-old Michael W. Hill was arrested about 9:45 p.m.
Wednesday. He’s being held in the Yavapai County Jail on suspicion of felony
extortion, harassment and threats and intimidation.

Police say Hill made several threatening phone calls to his elderly parents and
then went to their home, saying he would physically hurt them and burn down
their house if they didn’t give him the money.

Hill allegedly wanted the cash so he could leave town.

Authorities say Hill served time in an Arizona prison in 2010 and his parents
had filed a protection order in court to stop their son’s threats.
