PHOENIX – A visit by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to Mexico to discuss cooperation with the country’s domestic security chief will be taking place at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Times Record News reports that Napolitano is stopping by Matamoros in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, to talk with Mexican Interior Secretary Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and local police about border security and a path to citizenship for the more than 11 million people without papers in the U.S.
In Matamoros, Napolitano will visit the historic home base of the Gulf cartel, one of several groups operating in a state plagued by organized crime and violence. Napolitano also is expected to address Homeland Security employees at a port of entry in Brownsville before flying on to Mexico City.
