Cave Creek man convicted in designer drug case

PHOENIX — A Cave Creek man has been convicted of manufacturing and
distributing designer drugs disguised as bath salts or household cleaning items.

Federal prosecutors said 51-year-old Michael Rocky Lane faces up to 20 years in
prison and-or a $1 million fine when he’s sentenced on Oct. 21.

Authorities said Lane and another man began manufacturing a designer drug that
contained a powerful stimulant in early 2011 but was labeled as a bath salt. It
was later relabeled as an “ultra-premium glass cleaner.”

Lane then allegedly manufactured other designer drugs that were labeled as
insect attractants or “exuberance powder.”

Authorities said Lane made nearly $8,000 a day from domestic Internet sales of
his products to individual customers alone.

He was arrested after federal authorities served search warrants on his company
in Tempe.
