TUCSON — A man accused in the shooting death of a Tucson teenager nearly 12 years ago has been acquitted in his third trial.
Jurors in Pima County Superior Court on Friday found 36-year-old Max Montijo LaMadrid not guilty on murder and manslaughter charges.
LaMadrid was accused of killing 16-year-old Tanee Natividad during a drive-by shooting in November 2001.
Natividad was with her boyfriend at a fast-food drive-through when two groups started fighting in the parking lot.
Police say shots were fired and a bullet went through the rear window of the car Natividad was sitting in and fatally struck her in the head.
LaMadrid was on the run for nearly nine years before he was captured in October 2010 by Mexican authorities in Hermosillo.
His first two trials ended in mistrials.
