Tom Teves: 1 year after son’s death in Colo. shooting, ‘it will never be fixed’

PHOENIX — One year after losing his son in the Colorado movie theater shooting, Tom Teves said that day remains the worst of his life.
Saturday marks the first anniversary of the mass shooting that killed Alex Teves and 11 others who were watching a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
“When you’ve lost your first-born son, you’re never going to get better, it will never be fixed.” Teves said. “Everything you see and do reminds you of it.
“I saw a guy with his young son yesterday and it made me smile and made me think of Alex. Then you fast forward to what happened and it brings me right back.”
Teves’ son, who graduated from Desert Vista High in southeast Phoenix and the University of Arizona, would have turned 25 last month. Teves said he can’t help but think what was taken from his son.
“He will never get married. We’re never going to have grandchildren at least with him.”
In the year since their son’s death, Teves and his wife Caren have been outspoken proponents of gun control. Teves refuses to say the name of the man responsible for the Aurora shooting, calling him a coward.
