2 Phoenix men arrested after large heroin seizure

PHOENIX — Two Phoenix men are in custody after authorities seized more
than 60 pounds of heroin with an estimated street value of $1.5 million.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say detectives also recovered
about $250,000 in cash.

Authorities say 53-year-old Victor Orozco and 56-year-old Pedro Zazueta-Medina
were booked into jail Wednesday.

They both are being held on suspicion of transportation of narcotic drugs for
sale, money laundering, conducting an illegal enterprise and conspiracy.

DPS detectives with search warrants confiscated the heroin Tuesday night at
three west Phoenix homes.

“Those were the distribution centers,” said Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook. “That’s basically the central hub of where they were running this heroin operation out of here in the U.S.”

The heroin was transported to the Phoenix area from Mexico and authorities say
the drugs and cash was packaged and wrapped in electrical tape.

“They would come across the border and collectively put them together there for distribution throughout the entire Southwest, if not the western U.S.,” said Cook.
