Tucson police officer fired after his arrest

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Tucson police officer has been fired after being accused
of aggravated assault at a gasoline station while off duty.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department notified Tucson police that 23-year-old
Kyle McCartin was arrested early Tuesday.

Rincon District deputies responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon
at the Giant Gas Station about 3 a.m.

Authorities say two men wearing bullet-proof vests allegedly approached the gas
station clerk and one of them pulled out a gun and pointed it twice at the
clerk.

The men fled on foot but were later found at an apartment complex.

Authorities say the clerk gave a detailed description of the suspect, who was
later identified as McCartin.

Police say McCartin was hired last September and was on probationary status.
