PHOENIX — A woman charged in 2012 for hitting and killing a motorcyclist
while driving the wrong way on a Phoenix freeway has pleaded guilty in the case.
Authorities said Carol Ann Sacca drove the wrong direction in August 2012 on the
Loop 101 when her sedan struck the motorcycle head-on. Scott Benson, of Tempe,
Police said Sacca admitted taking a long-acting dose of morphine earlier that
day and muscle relaxers but that she had prescriptions for them. She said she accidentally got on the wrong freeway ramp.
Sacca originally pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and several counts
of endangerment. She pleaded guilty this week to manslaughter and two counts of
endangerment. Sentencing is set for Sept. 13.
