Report: Horror-themed Mesa restaurant not reopening

Jul 10, 2013, 5:57 PM | Updated: Aug 23, 2013, 1:56 pm

PHOENIX — A horror-themed restaurant in Mesa, Ariz., will reportedly not reopen despite rumors to the contrary.

According to the Phoenix New Times, Monsterland was planning to reopen in late August but announced over the holiday weekend that the restaurant would remain closed.

An unsigned post (which we assume was from Wynn) to Monsterland’s Facebook just before the recent holiday weekend states that he has “decided to accept an offer for the building” and the new business going into the place isn’t keeping all the ghouls and goblins around.

“Unfortunately, the new business will be changing to a corporate and wedding venue,” Wynn states. “It will keep a castle theme, but, I will be selling the props and animatronics”

The restaurant also announced that all decorations and animatronics were sold to the 13th Floor Haunter House that operates in north Phoenix.

The restaurant, located near 13th Street and Main in downtown Mesa, was originally a haunted house.

Monsterland originally opened in April 2012 but closed in January because it was overwhelmed.

“We focused on good fresh prepared menu items, Arizona Craft beers, and great service. We struggled at our opening, but am proud to say we have received hundreds of positive reviews and compliments the past 9 months,” said former owner Kevin Wynn in a letter posted to Facebook.
