CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — A draft study of a proposed new interstate highway
linking Phoenix and Las Vegas says the route is justified and would boost the
economies of Arizona and Nevada.
The study prepared by consultants for the states’ departments of
transportations says the proposed Interstate 11 would support economic
development and present new opportunities for travel, trade and tourism.
According to the study, the route could potentially extend north to Canada and
south to Mexico.
No funding has been provided for building the route, but backers were
encouraged by Congress’ approval of a transportation bill that designated the
route as I-11.
