KINGMAN, Ariz. — A dude rancher has filed a notice of appeal with federal
authorities to stop the use of a bypass road to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.
Grand Canyon Ranch Resort owner Nigel Turner claims the road for alternative
access to the Skywalk is unnecessary because two other routes already exist.
Turner’s notice of appeal delivered Wednesday to the Bureau of Land
Management’s field office in Kingman also claims the bypass road has destroyed
more than 13,000 Joshua trees and disturbed some ancient tribal burial grounds.
The Hualapai Tribe operates the Skywalk, which opened in 2007.
The tribe received a federal permit to create a three-quarter-mile dirt route
that will run adjacent to Turner’s property.
