Evacuations ordered due to Hualapai Mountains fire

KINGMAN, Ariz. — Authorities in Mohave County are advising residents of
some Hualapai Mountains communities to evacuate due to a lightning-started fire
burning southeast of Kingman.

The Dean Peak fire started Saturday and is burning in brush and pine trees in
an area with rugged terrain. It had burned 908 acres by Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office initially said there was a mandatory evacuation order but
later clarified that it’s advisory only.

The evacuation advisory covers the communities of Pine Lake and Hualapai
Mountain Park. Communications sites also are threatened.

On Monday afternoon, county authorities were going door to door to advise Blake
Ranch Road residents about a pre-evacuation notice.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Trish Carter says probably more than 100 homes are
effected by the advisory, including vacation cabins and year-round homes.
