Sen. Shooter says he wants school case settled

PHOENIX (AP) _ Arizona state Sen. Don Shooter says his lawyer is negotiating
with the city prosecutor in Yuma to resolve a case where he confronted his
grandson’s teacher in a classroom.

Yuma police have asked the prosecutor to file four misdemeanor charges against
the Republican for a March 22 incident at the grandson’s charter high school.
They want Shooter charged with assault, interference or disruption of an
educational institution, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

The senator never touched the teacher or any students. Police say the assault
charge was requested because the teacher was fearful.

Shooter said Tuesday his lawyer is trying to resolve the case. Prosecutor Jay
Cairns declined to confirm plea negotiations and said the case is
still under review.

Shooter says the teacher was bullying his grandson.
