PHOENIX — A former staffer at a federal prison facility in Phoenix has
been convicted of sexually abusing two inmates.
Federal prosecutors say a jury on Tuesday found 49-year-old Jose Arnulfo
Martinez guilty on six counts of sexual abuse of a ward.
The Phoenix resident is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 26.
Prosecutors say each conviction for sexual abuse of a ward carries a prison
sentence of up to 15 years and/or a $250,000 fine.
Martinez worked for the Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Correctional
Prosecutors say the evidence at trial showed that Martinez sexually abused an
inmate on three different occasions in 2008 and did the same to another inmate
three times in 2010.
