PHOENIX — While most people will be keeping an eye out for ghosts and ghouls Halloween weekend, Arizona law enforcement will be keeping an eye out for drunk drivers.

Alberto Gutier with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said law enforcement is stepping up DUI patrols all over the Valley.

“Making sure that young people and their parents, when they go out trick-or-treating, they can have a good time and feel safe,” he said. “There’s always somebody that tries to do something dumb and creates a risk for somebody else.”

Gutier said those planning to party their Halloween away should plan on using a designated driver or another means of finding a ride home.

Triple-A of Arizona said it will offer its popular Tipsy Tow program beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.

Tipsy Tow will take a driver and passenger — and a vehicle — up to 10 miles at no charge. It is open to anyone, not just Triple-A members.

Trips over 10 miles are charges the towing company’s standard rate.

To get a Tipsy Tow, drivers should call 800-222-4357. The service is dependent on capacity, so drivers are urged to call ahead of time.

We want to hear from you.
