Two $1 million Powerball tickets sold in Arizona

May 19, 2013, 4:03 PM | Updated: 4:09 pm

PHOENIX — While the Powerball ticket for the estimated $590.5 million jackpot was reportedly sold in a Publix supermarket in suburban Florida, the state of Arizona didn’t go home completely empty-handed.

According to the Arizona Lottery, two $1 million Powerball second-prize winning tickets were sold in Safford and Chandler before Saturday’s record-breaking jackpot. The winning tickets matched 5 out of 5 numbers drawn but didn’t include the Powerball number.

The Arizona Lottery said that one of the winning tickets was sold at a Chevron located at 1990 S. Alma School Road in Chandler, while the other was sold at a Giant located at 300 U.S. 70 in Safford.

“This is exciting news for the Arizona Lottery. The winning tickets were so close to winning the record breaking $600 million jackpot, which shows that the big jackpot can be won in Arizona yet again,” said Karen Bach, director of budget, products and communications for the Arizona Lottery. “We look forward to meeting the winners and presenting them with their checks!”

We want to hear from you.
