Phoenix airport’s Sky Train reaches 10 million passengers mark

PHOENIX — Sometime Friday morning, the 10 millionth passenger on Sky Harbor’s Sky Train set foot on the car.
The milestone was celebrated by airport officials, although none were sure exactly who that rider was.
But that didn’t stop Jim Bennett, the airport’s aviation director, from greeting passengers and handing out souvenirs.
Sky Train opened two years ago, ferrying riders from the light rail stop at 44th and Washington streets to airport Terminals 3 and 4.
Airport spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez said early estimates put about 10,000 riders on the train per day. The number ballooned to 14,500 each day.
“People really enjoy riding Sky Train. We see a lot of families out here,” Rodriguez said.
About 100,000 people fly in and out of Sky Harbor daily, making it one of the nation’s 10 busiest airports.
