FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A collector of lost souls, or soles rather, is out of a job.
The City of Flagstaff decided to do something about the iconic Shoe Tree located on the corner of South San Francisco Street and East Butler Avenue.
“We first started noticing the shoes accumulating last fall. There had been a couple pairs and it just grew,” said Tom Boughner, Flagstaff Code Compliance Manager. “The complaints started to grow to the point where Code Compliance had to react.”
By the time tree workers got to removing the shoes, there were reportedly over 50 pairs dangling precariously off the branches of the tree.
