McCain proposes bill for freedom of choice cable TV

PHOENIX — For all the Americans who complain about a lack of control regarding their cable TV subscription, Sen. John McCain agrees and is trying to do something about it.

The Arizona senator introduced the Television Consumer Freedom Act on the U.S. Senate floor Thursday. McCain’s proposed legislation would free consumers from paying for channels they don’t want, replacing the bundling system with ‘a la carte.’

McCain’s bill would also “eliminate the sports blackout rule for events that are held in publicly financed stadiums” and pull licenses of broadcasters that take their free over-the-air shows and make them available to just cable subscribers.
