PHOENIX — Five Valley high school students were awarded scholarships Monday that honored fallen police officers.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia and other city VIP’s came together at a McDonald’s today for the awards ceremony. The students each received $1,000.
Jonathan Gentry, 17, plans to attend the University of New England to study medicine and said the money is already spent.
“It’s going straight to tuition.”
Gentry was awarded the Officer Paul Salmon Award, who was killed in 2005 in a car accident in south Phoenix.
