The Associated Press’ Twitter account was hacked Tuesday just after 10 a.m., sending out a tweet announcing President Barack Obama was injured, which caused the Dow Jones to plummet for a briefly.
The average fell more than 150 points and then quickly recovered.
In full, the tweet read, “Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.”
The tweet was up for at least six minutes and was retweeted more than 4,000 times. The account was then suspected.
The AP released the following statement: “The (at)AP twitter account has been hacked. The tweet about an attack at the White House is false. We will advise more as soon as possible.”
