US Airways airplane tire falls off before takeoff

The wheel of a US Airways aircraft fell off Wednesday prior to takeoff at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
According to charlotteobserver.com, officials said that Flight 1992 to Providence, R.I., was forced to exercise an emergency runway stop after a tire fell off the plane and landed in the undercarriage of a US Airways Express airliner, Flight 2219 from Lexington, Ky.
Passengers were escorted to the nearby terminal as repair crews replaced the tire and hauled the airplane to the gate for further inspection. No one was injured.
US Airways is based in Tempe, Ariz.
