One dead, four injured after shooting in Phoenix

PHOENIX – Officers responding to calls of shots fired found a chaotic scene just after 5:00 a.m. outside a business called “King’s Nightclub” near 7th Street and Broadway Road.

“We had several vehicles that were fleeing the scene of the parking lot there,” Sgt. Trent Crump told KTAR. “One that actually had rammed its way through a gate.”

Crump says as one officer tried to stop one vehicle, the driver indicated he had a gunshot victim on board and was taking him to the hospital. A total of five victims went to three hospitals.

No names are yet being released, but Crump says the gunshot victims are all men, between the ages of 19 and 42. One man was killed, one has injuries described as serious and three have injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

“What we have obtained from witnesses at this point is that there were at least two individuals and maybe more people that were accompanying them, and they got into a verbal altercation in the parking lot at which time shots were fired,” Crump said. “We don’t know how many people may have been involved in that or how many weapons were involved in it at this point.”

Crump says they will serve search warrants at the location as well as some of the vehicles that transported victims to hospitals. He expects to release more information on Monday after witness interviews have been completed as well as an investigation into who owns the building described as an after-hours club.
