Tucson man facing prison term for groping 2 girls

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Tucson man is facing up to a 15-year prison sentence
after pleading guilty to groping two young girls in 2011.

Pima County prosecutors say 30-year-old Christian Mercado-Velez will be
sentenced May 13.

They say he’s facing a sentence of between 3 1/2 years and 15 years.

The Arizona Daily Star says Mercado-Velez faces
mandatory prison on one of the counts, but could be placed on lifetime probation
for the other.

If placed on probation, Mercado-Velez will have to participate in a sex
offender treatment program.

Authorities say Mercado-Velez approached a girl in a store and allegedly
touched her inappropriately on July 18, 2011.

A week later, Mercado-Velez allegedly did the same thing to another girl under
10 at a different store. He was arrested three days later.
