Blooming good: Amy Poehler, Jack Black cover Bette Midler’s ‘The Rose’

Oct 14, 2015, 11:01 AM

While most people might recognize Amy Poehler from her comedy, acting, writing and award-show hosting, it turns out she’s a pretty talented singer as well.

Poehler joined fellow comedian and actor Jack Black onstage to sing Bette Midler’s classic “The Rose” at the Festival Supreme — a comedy festival from Black’s band, Tenacious D.

Decked out like Janis Joplin, Poehler sings the hit to a crowd, including some fake-lighter-wielding fans, before being joined in a tight three-person harmony with Black and the pianist.

Poehler told entertainment website Vulture she was a fan of Midler.

“So I first met Bette Midler in my head when I watched the film ‘The Rose’ in 1979. And since then, her and I have been best friends, in my head.

“In my head, she and I travel together, we have cut an album, and we pranked George Clooney,” Poehler told the site.

While Poehler may not pull out any serious Midler pipes during her performance, we still want to pull out our fake lighters and sway with the crowd.
