PHOENIX — The man killed in a shooting on the Northern Arizona University campus Friday morning was described as “kind” and “generous” by friends.

“He was probably the most kind, most generous guy I ever met,” Corissa Coe said. “He was always someone who made sure everyone felt comfortable and was included at all times. He was someone who always cared about other people.”

Colin Brough lost his life Friday in a shooting that left three others wounded. He was shot twice.

An incident between two student groups occurred around 1 a.m. and the 18-year-old shooter, identified by police as Steven Jones, produced a handgun and began shooting.

Coe said there was some sort of physical altercation. That was later confirmed by police.

“This shouldn’t have happened, especially to him,” she said.

Coe said she met Brough through Greek life activities about two years ago. Brough’s fraternity, Delta Chi, confirmed he and the other victims were members.

Delta Chi Fraternity was made aware of a shooting that took place early Friday morning allegedly involving some of our members.

We have investigated this matter and can confirm that members were victims of this tragedy.

We do not have any information on the victims nor do we know if the deceased individual is a member of the Fraternity.

At this time, we can confirm that this incident was isolated and not fraternity related.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the victims as well as the entire community in Flagstaff.

Brough’s LinkedIn page said he was studying business marketing but considering a switch to finance. He was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

His Facebook page said he was native to Annapolis, Maryland. He went to high school near Denver before attending NAU.

Jones faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

We want to hear from you.
