Apache Junction police chief takes Prescott post

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Prescott is getting a new police chief.

City officials announced Wednesday that Jerald Monahan, police chief for Apache Junction, has accepted the job.

His hiring is contingent upon successful completion of background checks.

Monahan was selected from a pool of 30 applicants.

City officials said Monahan has more than 30 years of public
safety experience. He was recently inducted as president of the Arizona
Association of Chiefs of Police.

Monahan holds a master’s degree with an emphasis in public safety management as
well as a bachelor’s degree in public safety administration from Grand Canyon

He’s expected to start the new position in mid-March at the latest — he is required to give Apache Junction a 30-day notice.
