Immigrant activists were hoping for specifics from Obama

PHOENIX — Local and state immigrants’ rights groups came together Tuesday afternoon to watch President Barack Obama speak about immigration reform.

For the duration of the president’s speech, the crowd of about two dozen sat in silence, but applauded at points.

The general consensus of the group is that the speech provided hope and provided them with a renewed sense of optimism. However, the speech failed to satisfy the need for details.

“This is what to hear, this is what we’ve been hearing, but unfortunately it’s not followed up by action, it’s not followed up by stopping the deportations,” said Carlos Puente with Puente Movement. “What he did with the DREAMers is great, he can now do that with the rest of the families here in the country.”
