Pima County Sheriff’s cleared in fatal 2011 chase

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has been cleared in
the 2011 death of a Tucson motorist.

The 45-year-old Gutierrez was sentenced to 18 years in prison in September
after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, robbery and two counts of

Authorities say Joseph Marques sustained fatal injuries in the accident on
April 1, 2011, and died several days later.

Marques’ widow and her 11 children filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the
sheriff’s department.
