PHOENIX — It’s party time in Gilbert, where dogs can bring their humans Saturday to BARKtoberfest.
The popular event, in its 16th year, features dog adoptions, a “bobbing for bones” contest, a dog parade, vendors and food trucks, according to nonprofit Friends for Life Animal Rescue.
BARKtoberfest is expected to draw 7,500 humans.
The Gilbert Police Department is slated to give a K-9 demonstration, and the Gilbert Fire Department will bring, “a fire/accelerant-sniffing dog to do a demonstration for the crowd,” according to the East Valley Tribune.
Animals will be up for adoption and owners can show off their companion’s Halloween costumes early during the best dressed dog contest.
Friends for Life Animal Rescue is a no-kill animal shelter, focused on “animals living on the streets and in the deserts.”
BARKtoberfest will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Gilbert Civic Center, near Gilbert and Warner roads.
