Barrio Cafe chef to open another restaurant in downtown Phoenix area

Oct 6, 2015, 11:20 AM

PHOENIX — One doors closes, and then reopens for someone else.

Bragg’s Factory Diner near downtown Phoenix closed Sunday but before that even happened the people behind the popular Barrio Cafe announced they were moving into the location.

Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza told the Downtown Phoenix Journal “I’m ready to get down and bring it,” to the new spot on Grand Avenue at 13th Avenue.

Bragg’s announced it was shutting down a week ago.

In a note posted to its website, owners Liam Murtaugh and wife Emily Spetrino-Murtaugh wrote:

It’s with a very heavy heart that we announce Bragg’s Factory Diner is no longer open for business.

We’d never be able to properly express our love for all of the support, encouragement, friendships and fun we have experienced with every single one of our customers, neighbors, and employees here over the last couple years. Phoenix is a very special city, and Grand Avenue is a very special street, and we tried to show them both as much love as possible in every pancake we flipped or slice of pie we served. Thank you for the memories.

Bragg’s served “classic diner food with a vegan spin.”

The dining options will be different at the Barrio Cafe, one of the Valley’s best-rated Mexican restaurant. The original site is on 16th Street near Thomas Road.
