Pima County man pleads guilty to manslaughter

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Pima County man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in
the stabbing death of his dad with a broken golf club.

County prosecutors say 35-year-old Brian Gene Harmon entered his plea Wednesday
and is facing a prison term of between seven and 21 years when he’s sentenced
March 4.

The Arizona Daily Star says Harmon had been scheduled
to go to trial next week on a first-degree murder charge.

Authorities say 56-year-old Phillip Harmon was killed at his home on New Year’s
Day 2010.

Prosecutors say Brian Harmon hit his father with a golf club and when it broke,
he stabbed him in the abdomen with it.

He then fled the scene, but was taken into custody after returning to his
father’s house.
