Mesa man arrested after incident with sledgehammer

MESA, Ariz. – Jeffrey West of 245 S. 56th Street in Mesa was arrested Monday for aggravated assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct after an altercation with his roommate, according to the Mesa Police Department.
On New Year’s Eve morning at 10:20 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call from the victim who locked himself in a bedroom after West allegedly came after him with a sledgehammer.
As officers arrived at the scene, the victim was able to exit the bedroom window to safety.
A SWAT team had to be called to remove West from the residence.
