PHOENIX — Authorities have recovered human bones from a south Phoenix
storm drain after workers on a cleaning crew spotted them at the bottom of an
Maricopa County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Brandon Jones said workers spotted
what appeared to be human remains early Wednesday. Officials had to wait until
about 9 a.m. before fire crews determined the air was safe for homicide
detectives to climb down about 30 feet to the bottom of the drain.
Jones said detectives did not recover an entire skeleton and planned to
re-enter the drain to search for more bones.
He said detectives doubt the person accidentally ended up in the drain.
