A novel idea could bring thousands in tourism dollars to the city of Tucson.
“It’s marketing effort, outreach to bring those visitors from across the border more often, to stay longer, and of course spend more money and have a bigger impact in our economy,” said Executive Vice President of the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitor’s Bureau of the Vamos a Tucson program.
Workers at participating manufacturing companies in Mexico can apply for a $500 to $700 line of credit to spend in Tucson. The free line of credit would be paid directly from the workers’ paycheck.
The program debuts this week. It is the result of a partnership between the MTCVB with the Maquiladora Association of Sonora and the Banorte.
