Coyotes on prowl in parts of metro Phoenix

PEORIA, Ariz. — Prowling young coyotes are causing concern in some parts of the Valley.

This time of year coyotes wander in to populated neighborhoods as they search for water, food and shelter.

There have been recent reports in schools, parks and near homes.

Amanda Jacinto with the Peoria Police Department said residents should never try to feed or catch a wild animal, but it’s OK — from a safe distance — to try to scare a coyote away.

“Shout, bang pots and pans, wave large objects. They’re pretty skittish when it comes to human beings,” Jacinto said.

Jacinto also suggested spraying a coyote with a garden hose to get them to leave a yard.

If none of these measures are successful, call local police.
