Area election workers ready for Tuesday

Nov 5, 2012, 8:02 AM | Updated: 10:10 am

PHOENIX — More than 5,000 Maricopa County elections workers are ready to roll Tuesday.

Those workers will be staffing more than 700 polling sites across the County starting at 6 am Tuesday and wrapping up at 7 pm.

Yvonne Reed with the Maricopa County Elections Department said voters will need to bring their Arizona driver’s license or federal, state or local ID card.

Voters who don’t bring ID to the polls will be given a provisional ballot.

“You can come back that day with the ID or up to five days after the election for that ballot to count,” she said.

Reed said even though the polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, undoubtedly there will still be people in line and they will be able to cast their vote.

“If there are still people in line at 7 p.m. Tuesday the Marshal will stand behind the last person in line and the group will still be able to vote even after 7.”

Reed said she expects turnout to be about 72 percent. Turnout was 79 percent in Maricopa County for the 2008 presidential election.

Other acceptable forms of ID in lieu of a photo ID include at least two of the following:

• Voter registration card/Recorder’s certification

• Utility bill dated within 90 days of the election

• Bank or credit union statement dated within 90 days of the election

• Valid Arizona vehicle registration

• Property tax statement of the person’s residence

• Indian census card

• Tribal enrollment card or other form of tribal identification

• Any “Official Election Material” mailing bearing the person’s name and address

All of the above items must include the person’s name and address.
