Arizona Cardinals fans proved to be generous, donating about 4,000 pounds of food for St. Mary’s Food Bank Monday evening at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
“St. Mary’s collected about 22 full food drive boxes and people were also very generous with cash donations,” said Jerry Brown, spokesman for the food bank.
The collection was held prior to opening kickoff for the Cardinals-San Francisco 49ers game.
Brown also said the food bank hopes to match its donation total of $10,000 from last year’s drive.
“Those kind of drives — large scale events where we can reach large amounts of people are very important to us. We’re 40 percent down in our warehouse right now. We’re really needing the help,” Brown said.
Brown said St. Mary’s will also be holding a drive before the Suns game on Nov. 21, the day before Thanksgiving.
People can still donate at any Valley Goodwill or St. Mary’s Food Bank.
