TEMPE, Ariz. — The Tempe Police Department has rolled out its new sex offender notification program called OffenderWatch.
“We can, in real time, pull up on a map of the city, each and every registered sex offender and find out where they reside at, see a picture of that person, so when we begin our canvas efforts, we know which doors we need to knock on,” Lt. Scott Smith said.
According to police, “Literally every moment counts during a child abduction or attempted luring, and makes this increased intelligence and technology capability especially critical.”
Chief Tom Ryff stated, “We are using OffenderWatch for investigations in Tempe and across our borders. The implementation of this program significantly enhances our ability to search locally, statewide, and nationwide for sex offender information.”
OffenderWatch is in use by more than 1,000 agencies across the country including Mesa, Glendale and Avondale police. Two other metro area agencies are reviewing the program.
