PHOENIX — The man accused of killing an Arizona State University student was found guilty of first-degree murder.
Jose Luis Marquez was convicted in the 2010 dragging death of Kyleigh Sousa, 21. He had tried to snatch her purse while she was outside a Tempe restaurant.
Sousa was tangled up in the purse’s strap and she was dragged about 30 feet as Marquez drove off. She suffered severe injuries, chief among them blunt-force trauma to the head, which eventually led to her death.
Marquez was also convicted of robbery. He’s set to be sentenced Dec. 14 and faces the possibility of life in prison.
