A mother’s plea to get in contact with her college-aged son has gone viral, after she took to Facebook in an attempt to get him to call home.

“Hi, Liam, hi! Do you remember me?” Ann Pinto McCarney said, addressing her 18-year-old son by opening up the video with old memories of giving birth and how he used to sit on her hip.

The video was uploaded last Wednesday after Liam left his home in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, for Gettysburg College, according to NBC’s Today show.

McCarney joked around on the video, even teaching her son how to use the phone to call her.

“I’m a mommy and mommys help their kids learn, like I taught you how to go to the potty and ride a bike, so I’m going to teach you how to use a phone,” McCarney said in the video.

She even called him out for using the phone to text his girlfriend, but not using it to contact his parents.

McCarney said she uploaded the video, which also included a description of Liam’s father in case he forgot, because she felt she could.

“As soon as I gave birth and got stretch marks, I figured I had a right to torture him as much as I want,” she said in an interview with NBC affiliate NBC10.

According to the article, Liam called his parents the day after the video was uploaded, only the second time since he left home.

McCarney said sending her son off to college was difficult enough without dealing with not hearing from him.

“Sending your child off to college is so bittersweet to begin with,” she said in an interview with NBC10. “There’s a combination of your heart is soaring and swelling with pride and yet it’s breaking at the same time. So when you let them go like that, you don’t want to feel like you’ve been completely erased from their life. I think it struck a chord.”

The video has been viewed nearly two million times and has been shared more than 28,000 times.
