Valley kids mark International Walk to School Day

PHOENIX — Children all over the Valley will be celebrating International Walk to School Day on Wednesday.
It’s an event in which at least 40 countries will be highlighting the importance of pedestrian safety, healthy habits and clean, pollution-free air.
“Let’s reduce the congestions, let’s create a safer environment as kids arrive to school and leave from school,” said Sandy Adams, traffic education program manager with the City of Glendale.
“Let’s get them walking and biking a safe route into school and that way reducing the congestion which can cause often times safety hazards.”
Glendale has partnered with school districts to use the day as a platform to educate children on walking and biking safety. Glendale officials, school faculty and students along with Howler, the Phoenix Coyotes mascot, will be on hand at Copper Creek Elementary school for the special event.
According to the city, children will receive special safety reflector items and information on safe and suggested walking routes.
