A new program gives hope to HIV/AIDS patients in the Valley.
The University of Arizona – Phoenix and the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS have partnered up in an effort to have college students fight the diseases.
“Our internship will help students become much more sensitive to the complexities of serving someone with a chronic disease,” said Dr. Carol Poore with the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS.
Poore said many HIV/AIDS patients suffer from heart disease and diabetes, not to mention other factors that can complicate treatment.
“When you start to combine that with a person that might be homeless or that might have substance abuse issues, there are so many overlapping issues that can impact those with HIV and AIDS,” she said.
Internship rotations are expected to begin in 2013.
