Police: Woman shot, man hit with hatchet

A woman was shot and a man was injured by a hatchet at a home in Surprise, police said.

The incident began when two men got into a fight. One man hit the other with a hatchet and, in response, the second man pulled out a gun.

“When he shot at the man who had attacked him, that bullet hit the female,” said Surprise Police Sgt. Bert Anzini. “At this time, no arrests have been made. All three people involved with this incident are being questioned by police at this time.”

Police are still investigating what happened at the home near Greenway and Litchfield Roads.

Anzini said all three people were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
