PHOENIX — Pediatricians are getting harder to come by in Arizona.
Cardon Children’s Medical Center CEO Rhonda Anderson said the changing face of medicine and the long challenging road to become a pediatric specialist are two reasons for the shortage.
“For the pediatricians, there’s going to be a lot of change,” she said. “Their expectations are going to be managing in a whole different way as we get to the future.”
Anderson said that getting doctors interested in pediatrics is key because there will always be a need for them.
“The need to take care of children being born and throughout their life,” she said.
Anderson said Cardon has programs that are designed to spark interest in pediatrics starting at the junior high level up to college.
